hypnotized by the light
THIS MUST BE THE LIFE [attr="class","bandittable1"]One would have thought that after her first attempt outside of camp went so poorly, Hibiscuspaw should have taken more caution when she set off that morning without a care in the world. Aphidpaw had been busy and unable to go with her on an adventure, saying that he had to go off and train with Ratwhisker, and Darkflower had given her the day to rest after she'd successfully caught not one, but two frogs to return to her grandfather. Things were going well... better than well and in truth, the young apprentice couldn't have been happier with her life.
Well... maybe she could. A new friend was never off the table. So that was why she was wandering through ShadowClan territory, making her way from one major landmark to another. But each one she passed, she found there were no companions to meet. That left the tortoiseshell female with only one other solution in her paws. Keep exploring, leave no stone unturned.
That was how she ended up at the edge of ShadowClan's territory. And how she spotted the small feline on the other side of the border. She was awfully close, and from what she remembered from what Darkflower said, no cat from any other clan was supposed to go across the border. Her heart started pounding, and she raced closer. "H-hey! Wait, get back!" Though the tone of her voice sounded more panicked than menacing.

"s-sorry! i'm not a threat, i swear!" she called out in response, slowly backing away. upon closer inspection the figure looked like an apprentice near her own age. at least it wasn't a warrior. "i-i'm a medicine cat apprentice, i don't even know how to fight!" looking back on it now, she realized that she probably did look rather suspicious from afar. she wasn't too familiar yet with what medicine cats were and weren't allowed to do, especially in terms of the borders.[break][break] she ducked her head sheepishly, her heart rate slowly returning to normal but her body remaining in a defensive crouch. "i was searching for herbs and i guess i got distracted." she remarked nervously, her gaze darting back and forth. but as she locked gazes with the other molly, she realized that she appeared to be just as scared as lilacpaw felt herself. taking a deep breath, she slowly straightened up, forcing her fur to lay flat in an attempt to look as friendly and harmless as possible. "i'm sorry if i startled you. i'm still pretty early in my training, so i haven't quite yet memorized where everything is." she averted her gaze for a moment, feeling slightly awkward now. "um... i'm lilacpaw. i'm thunderclan's medicine cat apprentice."

hypnotized by the light
THIS MUST BE THE LIFE [attr="class","bandittable1"]The yelp that sounded from the other feline made Hibiscuspaw's ears feel hot with guilt. She didn't like scaring others - or really even being mean. Darkflower has been so insistent on no one was supposed to come over ShadowClan's borders that the thought hadn't occurred to ask if there were ever exceptions to that rule. Though, from what she knew of medicine cats which was, in truth, very little, she didn't really know what to expect. "S-sorry." She stammered out, though her stammering really came from the panting that she was doing to try to control her own breath. She'd been so excited and shocked by the sudden appearance of the other apprentice that she had worked herself up.
The little feline tilted her head slowly as she settled onto her haunches on ShadowClan's side of the border, sticking to a few tail lengths away in the off chance that someone happened this way. She still didn't understand border schedules, so she had no way of knowing of a patrol was on her tail or not. "I wasn't gonna fight, I'm sorry. My mentor just told me that nobody is supposed to go over the border. I kind of panicked." She admitted, her ears flattening in embarassment.
"What kinda herbs?" A spark of curiosity lit behind the little tortieshell's eyes as she perked up, almost completely forgetting about the moment of fright they'd given each other only moments ago. And, as Lilacpaw offered her name, Hibiscuspaw let out a rumbling purr in return. This was something she knew how to do, making friends!
"Nice to meet you Lilacpaw, I'm Hibiscuspaw." The tip of her tail twitched in excitement beside her paw. "That's so cool that you're a medicine cat like Cardinalberry!"

Murkpelt had been a lot more active in patrolling the borders as of late. Moreso to catch any cats in the act of stealing prey. Though she seemed to favor stopping by Riverclan's border, but what would stop any of the other clans from snatching up prey as well?
Absolutely nothing.
So she headed towards Claw Rock to check the border, but a familiar scent distracted her. She paused, ears pricked forwards as she took in the scents around her, yet the vibrant red of the Maple Grove treetops was enough to draw her attention.
Suspicious, Murkpelt set a brisk pace though it didn't take her long to pick up the fresh scent of Thunderclan and spot two figures at the border: apprentices. The fur along her back stood on end as she approached despite the lighthearted conversation she walked in on. She came up behind Hibiscuspaw.
"You're quite far from your camp, Lilacpaw," the scarred molly finally spoke aloud, amber eyes narrowed as she stared down at the two apprentices. She didn't think for a second that a medicine cat apprentice was any threat, but she wasn't one to let her guard down. The warrior glanced around as if searching for others, wondering if the young molly had come alone. notes ♡

"no, it's okay, i should apologize. i probably shouldn't be so close to the border, regardless of my rank." it seemed that wandering too close to the other clans' borders could spell out trouble, even for a young healer-in-training such as herself. still, this was a good opportunity to learn more about one of their neighbors.[break][break] the calico cracked a smile at the other molly's interest. "there's an herb that grows not far from here that jayfeather showed me a little while ago. it was called, umm..." she trailed off a moment, racking her brain for the name. after a moment she perked up. "thyme! it was thyme. it was growing really well so we brought back a lot. i was checking in to see if there was any more, but i think we collected all of it." she didn't think this other apprentice was a medicine cat apprentice, but she appreciated the curiosity. it actually felt kinda nice to talk about what she'd learned so far. and she was proud that she had retained the information fairly well! a small purr rumbled in her throat as the other offered her own name. "hibiscuspaw. what a beautiful name!" and floral-themed, just like her own. what a coincidence![break][break] she ducked her head slightly and giggled sheepishly at the compliment, but her elation was short-lived as another dark-furred figure slid out of the shadows behind hibiscuspaw, alarming the calico. "eep! i-i'm sorry!" her face grew hot and she took a few steps back, her fur bristling in embarrassment. "i-i was just checking on a patch of herbs not far from here and i guess i got distracted..." suddenly this seemed like a terrible idea in hindsight. she found herself wishing she'd never left the camp to begin with. so much for doing anything useful...
