There's a moment in your bones when the fire takes over Blood is running heart is pumping as the battle gets closer ❧ Time since Vael - Bitterntalon now - had passed in something of a blur for Maplestorm. He had barely been able to remain conscious then. He was about as fond of outsiders as your average WindClan warrior, but he quickly found himself growing fond of the new Medicine Cat. It was difficult to hate the cat that had dragged you back from StarClan's grasp, after all.
Now, he was almost able to eat full meals and was starting to regain some weight. Unfortunately, it had only been a short while before they'd been able to confirm that his paw would never sit right again. Now quite so limp as Deadfoot had been, from the sounds of it, but he'd lost most of the feeling in his toes and he couldn't quite force it straight. He was immensely grateful to the tom regardless. Even if he did still offer a good deal of snark to the younger cat.
Somehow more important than the new Medicine Cat's aid was Turtlefang's visits. He looked forward to them more than anything. He hoped his siblings didn't mind the visible disappointment when he heard he had a visitor only to see them instead.
"Bitterntalooonnn," He called, more to alleviate his boredom than out of real need, "How long until breakfast? I'm withering away over here!"

[attr="class","tttop"] [attr="class","ttimg"] [attr="class","ttlineone"]turtlefang [attr="class","ttlinetwo"]moorrunner of windclan [attr="class","ttbody"]The molly had gotten up early to catch a morning meal. Vael - known as Bitterntalon now by the clan - had told her Maplestorm was improving. She was happy, and thus she had focused once more on her apprentice and on her warrior duties, allowing Maplestorm's siblings some time with him. She would visit him every once in awhile but they were less frequent than they were before simply because she couldn't keep herself holed up in the medicine den when she knew that he was getting better. After her morning run and catching a seemingly plump rabbit for the season - the only catch she'd been able to get that morning after the sun rose drastically - she came back to camp dragging the rabbit back. Today was one of the days that Frecklepaw had some apprentice duties to do, and she could slip away to catch her breath and check on Maplestorm. He'd been in and out of it, and therefore sometimes wasn't awake for visiting, but the medicine cat would simply tell her that he would let her know the next time he was awake. Turtlefang was grateful to Bitterntalon. No matter how much of an outsider he was before, he'd proven that he could efficiently care for the clan as he did with Maplestorm. Of course, the large savannah was not able to heal broken bones and Maplestorm's leg but he'd done his best. She'd heard that his wound wasn't as bad as it seemed, Maplestorm seemed to have lost feeling in his toes, and couldn't quite force his paw straight. But Turtlefang knew that maybe he could work around it. Maplestorm seemed like he could be able to after all. As she popped into the medicine den, she heard the very familiar voice whining for the medicine cat. A flick of her ear and the silver molly walked into Maplestorm's vision, dropping the rabbit as she gave an amused look towards him. "You truly are withering away aren't you?" She said. "You poor creature!" She dramatically sighed as she brought forth the rabbit to sit in front of him. "Bitterntalon I don't think he can go on! You should put him out of his misery," She would say, knowing full well the medicine cat had left as soon as she made it towards the den. With no answer she gave a dramatic sigh as she sat down next to Maplestorm. "Tragic, he's going to make you suffer," She said to him before letting out a snort trying to hide her laughter. This was the first time Turtlefang had truly felt any sense of happiness. Not everything was good now, but this little bit she could treasure for that moment, seeing him more alive than he'd been just days before. There's a moment in your bones when the fire takes over Blood is running heart is pumping as the battle gets closer ❧ The molly's voice left a goofy grin on the older tom's face. He was happy to see her smiling and internally noted that he'd need to make her smile for all the frowning she'd done for him recently. He choked out a laugh at her words even as pain from the movement still vibrated down his leg.
"Just remember - every day you leave me to suffer is another you suffer through me," he joked loudly before turning to the molly, "Fortunately, a lovely molly has brought me a meal, so it looks like you are free of my bellyaching for a few minutes at least!"
He gave Turtlefang a thankful smile and patted the ground next to him with his good paw in a gesture that she should stay. He was pretty sure she would have anyway, but it was important to be polite.
"Thanks for visiting," He purred, "You are staying to share I should hope?"

[attr="class","tttop"] [attr="class","ttimg"] [attr="class","ttlineone"]turtlefang [attr="class","ttlinetwo"]moorrunner of windclan [attr="class","ttbody"]Turtlefang could tell Maplestorm was feeling better, just by the way he was acting. It was a drastic difference from the visage she had of him not only a few sunrises before. Giving a small laugh at his words she felt the flutter of her heart when he spoke of her being 'lovely'. While Turtlefang couldn't deny there was something special about Maplestorm to her - she'd never earnestly heard someone call her that. Not even her father. It was always 'strong' or 'worthy'. Her mother had always been encouraging of Turtlefang's looks but her mother would always be a molly who was proud of her children. That was nothing Turtlefang was ashamed of, it just made her eyes dart to the ground while she flicked her tail at the comment that hopefully Maplestorm didn't see. As he pat for her to stay, she gave a smile before settling down next to him, looking towards the plump rabbit in front of them. Leaf-bare was harsh, and she was willing to give herself until the afternoon but she didn't want to be rude. Of course, she knew that he couldn't quite eat full meals yet is what Bitterntalon had said. To keep him from over eating. Due to his lack of eating his stomach was easier to upset with large portions of food. "Of course," She mewed, nudging the rabbit towards him for him to take the first bite. After all, she'd caught it for him. "How are you feeling?" She asked him. "Bitterntalon told me you were doing better but didn't quite give me more than that," A bit of a lie, she'd known about Maplestorm's paw but she wanted to hear what he would say about it. There's a moment in your bones when the fire takes over Blood is running heart is pumping as the battle gets closer ❧ Accepting the invite to take the lead, Maplestorm bit into their rabbit and chewed slowly, taking some time to think through the answer to her question. He didn't want to worry her - or to burst her bubble that their run wasn't potentially on a permanent rain check. He was pretty certain that the hope for a running partner wasn't what kept her around, but that niggling fear did eat at his mind when he was feeling particularly self-conscious.
"Better, thanks to you," He mewed warmly, though his expression drifted to his splinted leg, "And that spotty giant we've decided to call a Medicine Cat, of course. Mostly you though."
He wasn't sure if his shifting was due to the discomfort of laying in one position too long, or perhaps from the weight of potentially acknowledging out loud what his future would be. He would experience pain in his leg forever. It would only get better up to a point. His ears fell back. He had been staving off the frustration building, but he knew himself well enough to know it would burst eventually. He was angry. His life was forever changed. He'd never be the same as before.
"You both did the best ya could," he made sure to note, though he could hear it in his own voice and averted his eyes from hers, "The paw will never be right again. It'll probably always hurt - just not as much. Just hopin' Nightstar lets me try to return to warrior duties eventually and doesn't ship me off to share a den with Tigerflame."
He glared at the tightly bound leg. He didn't want to talk about it anymore. He was afraid he might yell at her. He wouldn't forgive himself if he drove her away with his tendencies for temper. It would be easier if he could do anything to break the monotony.
"Can you help me get out of this den?" He asked, "I need to see the sky and feel the wind before I go crazy."

[attr="class","tttop"] [attr="class","ttimg"] [attr="class","ttlineone"]turtlefang [attr="class","ttlinetwo"]moorrunner of windclan [attr="class","ttbody"]As they ate, she listened to him attentively, knowing that everything he said was true about his leg. Nightstar would have to give him the chance to return to warrior duties - to see if the leg would truly be a hindrance to him or not. She'd known a few warriors in her lifetime that had wounds from battle and still fought. They finished off the rabbit and she looked towards him, seeing the glare he shot towards his leg before requesting to leave the den. It would be good for him to get out of bed, especially to walk around. She nodded, offering him support as she helped him get up. "I couldn't imagine being stuffed up in a den with a giant tom looming over me every second," She chuckled, trying to end the conversation as that as she helped him out of the den. The camp was still littered with snow, and some was coming down on them. Instinctively pressing herself against Maplestorm, she guided him to the top of the hill that overlooked their camp. The moors stood vast in front of them, showing an endless sea of white that was never interrupted. "Leaf-bare sure can be beautiful sometimes," She said gazing out at the moors before turning to Maplestorm. Seeing that some of his fur he'd been laying on was out of place, she leaned over and started licking the patches down flat, not minding being this close to the tom. After all, she'd spent some of his recovery doing this very thing in the safety of the medicine den. "We need to get you out of the den soon. You're starting to smell like Bitterntalon," She mumbled as she cleaned. His scent had been muddled by the many herbs Bitterntalon consistently placed on the tom, as well as the stench of the medicine cat that filled the den. While she didn't hate it, it just reminded her of the fact Maplestorm had almost died before her very eyes. There's a moment in your bones when the fire takes over Blood is running heart is pumping as the battle gets closer ❧ With his companion's support, Maplestorm managed to get three shaky legs under himself. He'd started working on walking again, but being unable to weight the splinted leg did make it difficult, especially as it was weirdly heavy and stuck out perfectly straight ahead of him. He staggered a few steps, nearly falling before catching himself on the wall. He took in her words with a laugh. He supposed he probably did smell mostly like herbs by now.
"I bet its because he practically slept on top of me until my fever broke," he joked exaggeratively, "Bones take a long time to heal, though. Something like 4 moons for a simple break sometimes. Hopefully I can at least get out of the den before then."
When they finally made it outside, the tom sat with another low huff. It felt so bright, his eyes stung as they adjusted. The cold Leafbare wind brushed through his fur but the sunlight felt warm on his face. He lifted his head and closed his eyes, marinating in the familiar feeling. He felt his entire body relax.
"I really owe you, Turtlefang," He mewed, turning to look at her, "I mighta given up without you. So... Thanks, ya know?"
There felt like something more he wanted to say as he looked into her beautiful green eyes. His heart pounded - and not just from the mild exertion. He hadn't felt like this in many moons. He didn't dare. If she felt the same, he would be elated, but he dared not risk the closest friendship he'd had in moons.

[attr="class","tttop"] [attr="class","ttimg"] [attr="class","ttlineone"]turtlefang [attr="class","ttlinetwo"]moorrunner of windclan [attr="class","ttbody"]Turtlefang looked towards Maplestorm with a smile and small laugh at his comment about the savannah. Truly, she was grateful Bitterntalon showed up when he did. She couldn't imagine losing Maplestorm. Over the time she'd visited him she realized all too quickly what had developed in her heart for the tom. It was foreign, for Turtlefang to love someone. She obviously loved her parents and siblings but an estranged love that only came from the value of the other was what her father had based his love off of. Her siblings had drifted away from her, although the memories of their kithood still clung to each of them in hopes that someday will be like that again. Their mother - ever loving and supportive of her children - still distant to Turtlefang since the silver molly furthered herself from her siblings, the fighting too much for their mother to handle. Turtlefang was able to love Maplestorm for who he was - being around him brought out the better side of Turtlefang. The loving and caring side that'd been long tossed away in favor of her rude and brutish side her father encouraged. It was not a forced love, nor a love that was determined by the value of the other. A love that existed purely because Maplestorm accepted her for who she was and in turn she did the same. As she listened to him, green hues locking with his own matching colored irises, she felt as if she'd burst if she didn't say it. "I would never let the tom I love give up. Not without fighting tooth and claw for him first," she said, the words falling from her mouth simply as she stared earnestly at him. There's a moment in your bones when the fire takes over Blood is running heart is pumping as the battle gets closer ❧ There was a part of Maplestorm's brain that short-circuited at the molly's words. She loved him. She loved him. She loved him! His jaw went slack and he nearly fell to the side in shock as his focus diverted from properly balancing his weight.
"You -" He started before catching himself from asking the obvious. Turtlefang was not the type to say such things without meaning them. That was one of the things he loved about her. The thought was jarring.
"I love you too," He mewed quietly, his face heating up with embarrassment. He wanted to say something dramatic, or to offer some grand romantic gesture, but it just wasn't really his thing. He could be warm and affectionate, but romance? It had never really been on the forefront of his mind.
"Hope you aren't expectin' me to bring ya flowers anytime soon, though," He joked awkwardly. He'd rather fetch her a set of hawk talons, in truth. A traditional courting gift felt important to him, though maybe that was his age showing.
