you can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.
TAGS:Dawnpelt WORD COUNT:270SPEECH HEX: #dda0ddNOTES: first queen thread! Rarely had she ever visited the nursery. There had been little reason to, prior to now. The last time she'd even crossed in front of it surfaced a happy memory, not long after she had joined Shadowclan with her father, when she'd been speaking with Myrtlesky and Dawnpelt. She recalled speaking to the Shadowclan deputy about the stress of motherhood, and it left an odd feeling over her knowing now she would be the new mother.
Tentatively, Silvershade stuck a paw into the den before following it with her head, then the rest of her. Soft lilac lenses squinted in the dark, adjusting, before blinking quickly and seeing the flame-colored frame of Dawnpelt nestled inside. Immediately, the night warrior felt plagued by guilt- she hadn't even realized Dawnpelt was pregnant, let alone now a newly-fledged mother by the looks of the two little ones at her side.
"Dawnpelt!" Her tone was surprised, but she did her best to keep the other molly's peace within the den, speaking quietly. "I hope I haven't bothered you. Would... you mind if I joined you here?"
The shadow looked anxiously around, eyes darting from the corners to the kits to the molly in front of her. "I... am expecting my own litter." It was the first time she had admitted it to anyone that wasn't her father or mate. The words felt strange even leaving her lips, but as the sound of them resonated against the den walls, she knew in her gut they felt right to say. There was no shame in being a new mother, it happened every day in every clan.

I want the markings made on my skin To mean something to me again
❧ Condorstar had been whisked away to perform some duty - or perhaps simply to comfort dear Poppypaw after a hard day, and while Dawnpelt adored every second with her beloved, she was glad to see him doing all that he needed to keep ShadowClan together. Azaleamask, despite nearing her own labor, had gone for a walk leaving her in the dim light with only her lovely sleeping little ones. She was thankful that the wounds on Scorchkit's scruff had begun to heal - and that they hopefully wouldn't scar.
She instead turned much of her fretting to her mate. Skunkshade's death had been brutal. She'd been so young and brave. Truthfully, her intervention had appeared, by all accounts that she had gathered, been what had driven Antlercloud to call for the retreat.
Fortunately, things had begun to return to some level of normalcy. As normal as things could be following the loss of so many of their clanmates. A sound drew her from her morbid reflection and her eyes flitted up to the familiar violet gaze of Silvershade.
"Silvershade," She purred in greeting, "Please do. Condorstar is busy and it is nice to have company while these two have their afternoon nap."
She was surprised by the molly's admission, but she smiled happily at her in response, "Congratulations! Skwhisper must be over the moon!"
She admittedly didn't quite agree with the Medicine Cat more or less abandoning the code he'd sworn himself to, but seeing the young pair together made it difficult to judge. Besides - it seemed that StarClan had blessed their union with a litter.

TAGS:Dawnpelt WORD COUNT:268SPEECH HEX:#dda0dd NOTES:x The breath in her lungs seemed to have stuck itself there, and her chest felt tight as it bundled the air inside. Her paws moved forward as she pulled the remainder of her body into the nursery, eyes flicking around as fear gripped her every fiber. It was an entirely new experience being here at all, especially inside, but it felt surreal now of what her circumstance meant. Silvershade nervously looked around as she attempted to find a spot that respected the other molly's space.
As the orange mother commented on her brood's nap, Silvershade's eyes finally stopped to land on their snoozing bodies before looking back at Dawnpelt. A smile graced her lips as she felt herself relax a little, the other molly looked the picture of motherhood and of grace. If Dawnpelt could do it, so could she.
"Thank you," she said with a grin, curling up into a corner of the nursery, "I will do my best not to wake them."
Her congratulations helped to alleviate whatever anxiousness still resided. "Yes, we both are." she admitted. The obsidian molly was excited to be a mother, but she had never found herself to be very maternal. She desperately wished for the company of her mother, and her mother's assurance that everything would be fine, that there was much to learn but that she was a capable molly.
With a raised brow and a folding of limbs, she looked back over to the other molly. "Were you... very prepared?" she asked, "For motherhood?" Hopefully Dawnpelt had some advice for her to hold onto through this new journey.
