The evening always felt nicer than the afternoons, with the sun beginning to lower it was growing cooler in the green-leaf air, it was refreshing and easier for him to be out and about due to his heavier coat He'd holler into the apprentice den, waiting for Rosepaw to respond and join him outside. So it was no surprise that he was asked to accompany a patrol with a few other fellow windclan warriors, although familiar, not any Stormwhisper considered as friends, merely clanmates and nothing more. Shrikecloud, Harelight and Cedarbranch were the ones who joined him on this lovely evening of making sure everything was in order among the borders of windclan.
Stormwhisper remained a bit ahead of the others, head held high and pride, and expression remaining cold as ever, focused on the task at hand, not having time for friendly chattering or personal connections at the moment. Not that he was usually a very social tom, he often preferred his alone time than to surround himself with others, but a patrol was a patrol. And he had no choice in the matter, if he were to run off on his own they would grow paranoid or worried for his safety, and if he were to leave them on their own, he may be considered untrustworthy. So he remained at a distance, tail swaying behind him gently as he moved forward, ears remaining perked and alerted.

CEDARBRANCHCedarbranch looked towards Stormwhisper who seemed to be distancing himself. And so, Cedarbranch went over to the tomcat, and decided to try and convince him to join them. "Hello Stormwhisper." He greeted before adding on. "Why don't you come over with the rest of us? It'd be much less lonely in my opinion." Cedarbranch said with a warm smile. The two toms were close in size, though Stormwhisper was somewhat larger then Cedarbranch, yet they both towered over many other cats. Nevertheless, Cedarbranch respected Stormwhisper very much, and kind of looked up to the older tom. Cedarbranch waited for a reply, sometimes glancing back at Shrikecloud and Harelight to see if they were fine. Maybe this patrol he could get to know Stormwhisper, Shrikecloud, and Harelight some more whilst watching for any intruders or prey? Perhaps he could. Stormwhisper, SHRIKECLOUD ✽, Harelight(Reply was made on a school chromebook. I apologize if it looks bad.)

Harelight of WindClan
Harelight was rather disinterested in the patrol. In particular, being with the cats that were in it. Especially Stormwhisper. He seemed to have a stick up his rear as if he was too good to socialize with the rest of the patrol. Apparently, he had something to be proud about. If Harelight was being frank, the smoke tom's looks was just subpar. His eyes wouldn't linger on his pelt for more than a heartbeat. Really, nobody on the patrol was eye-candy. However, they didn't seem that proud.
The cream tom's blue eyes slid over to Cedarbranch, resisting the urge to flatten his ears. Why was he wasting his breath? Didn't he know that the smoke tom didn't care for them like that? Or for socializing. He glanced at Shrikecloud, wondering if she was thinking the same thing. Instead of saying anything to her, he shook his head and stared forward, almost glaring at both of the toms. "Now now, Cedarbranch. Stormwhisper isn't a kit. I'm sure he'd be around us if he pleases," he said. His voice was neutral despite his irritation. "I think we'll be just fine." He didn't want the tom's cold energy around him at all. So what if he was a distance away? Surely, he'd call if he got snagged by a badger?
Although he was annoyed with the tom's demeanor, Harelight made no effort to lighten the mood. He wasn't in it that day. His sister's death took a big toll on him. He became more irritable, less patient, and took less even less interest in doing everyday chores. His trip to the Moonstone was rather fruitless. Although he walked that long distance and dealt with that nagging Nettlemask, the StarClan cats didn't do anything. He just felt cold water on his nose and nothing else. That entire experience made him feel useless and powerless. He couldn't stand it.
The tom sighed, looking up at the sky. Perhaps it would do him better if he focused on counting the clouds instead.

tagged words 316 notes NOTES | perhaps the only good thing about being on the patrol was that it was the last one she would be assigned to for the day. she craved her nest, her body already sore tomorrow from the wandering she done earlier in the day. the fact that she was on a patrol with stormwhisper who apparently took patrolling very seriously meant that it would be done quickly. though it would be appear that cedarbranch had other intentions. shrikecloud knew little of the tom, though they were close in age. she had been neglectful towards her other clanmates during her time with mintnose and onyx; an oversight she was still desperately trying to remedy. she needed more ‘friends’ in her corner, and though she doubted that harelight and stormwhisper would suit her needs, cedarbranch might be the right fit.
“aren’t we just a jolly bunch.” she mused at harelights dismissive words. harelight was a cat she wasn’t particularly fond of - sulking never looked good on a warrior, and that’s all she had seen him do since his sister died. shrikecloud had half a mind to tell him to snap out of it, but that would be considered ‘rude’. she hadn’t lost a sibling, nor anyone really in her life. she didn’t cound mintnose, though she grieved quite convincingly when he died. the poor widow shrikecloud, though the sympathy she received from her clanmates boiled her blood.
“personally, i find patrols much more enjoyable with some conversation. though i can’t speak for any of you.” she stated simply, her long tail swishing casually behind her as she walked. “come talk to me cedarbranch, stormwhisper appears to have a heavy mind.” surely that was the reason he was being so standoffish. either way, the she-cat couldn’t find it in her to care overly much. if he wanted to pretend he was a one cat show, that was fine with her.

A side glance as given toward Cedarbranch as he approached, greeting him with a warm and friendly smile, encouraging him to engage in ideal talk and bonding. They had a job to do, there was no time for fooling around and pleasant conversations that lead nowhere, besides the company joined by him was barely one the large tom enjoyed, finding them all to be insufferable in different ways. Shrikecloud seemed to speaking for him, claiming he had a heavy mind, while all Harelight did was sulk around and not think of what rude words may slip from his tongue. Cedarbranch was all too friendly and clingy, traits he found distasteful in most cats. Tail lashed slightly behind as his ear twitched, waiting for everybody to get their words in before he finally spoke.
"You have all a job to do, don't you? Get to it." He'd say plainly and sternly, expression folding into a sour frown as he glared at Cedarbranch, glancing over behind him toward Shrikecloud and Harelight, "I am fine where I am. I don't need to waste my time with conversation." Stormwhisper would move further away from Cedarbranch, ears pinning against his head in annoyance. A part of him had wished he denied the idea of a patrol, perhaps then he'd be left alone.

CEDARBRANCH
Cedarbranch looked away from Stormwhisper and over to Harelight, who seemed to be quite rude with how he spoke. However, the large tomcat didn't want Stormwhisper to be lonely, as no cat should be lonely in his opinion. Every cat deserved a friend or two. As he opened his muzzle to speak, Shrikecloud spoke, interrupting him. "Well, perhaps we could all just cheer up a bit? I'm sure it'd be nice to have a small bit of chat here and there amongst the patrol." Cedarbranch said, mostly replying to Shrikecloud's sarcasm, Harelight's rudeness, and Stormwhisper's unwillingness to be around them.
Then he heard Shrikecloud speak once again as she invited him over to chat. He looked over at Stormwhisper, who had scoot away from Cedarbranch, and so, he decided to go chat with Shrikecloud. He flicked his tail goodbye towards Stormwhisper, and walked over to Shrikecloud to talk. "So, what do you want to talk about, Shrikecloud? I'm all ears." Cedarbranch responded with a small smile.

Harelight of WindClan
Harelight dismissed all of Shrikecloud's words with a flick of his ear. Especially with this ridiculous comment about Stormwhisper having a heavy mind. For someone who thinks she's clever or like to be in solitude, watching her surroundings, she wasn't observant to him at all. Has anyone ever seen that gray hag in a happy mood? Or socializing with his clanmates? He strutted around the clan like he's the tom. Harelight didn't care to pick others apart in general, but that tom's lifeless energy was very obvious. It had the power to clog the camp's vibes.
The cream tom then heard Cedarbranch's voice again. He still seemed to have faith in this patrol. Harelight knew the chance of having an enjoyable patrol would be super slim when he found out that Stormwhisper was a part of it. Clearly, Cedarbranch was either too optimistic or foolish to see that. Rolling his eyes, he kept walking, hoping the patrol would end as quickly as it started. The members were too draining and boring for his tastes. He came on the patrol to do something useful and perhaps clear his head. And that wasn't coming to plan.
For the rest of the patrol, the cream tom was fine with just tuning everyone out. But as soon when the gray tom spoke, that went into the wind. Harelight's blood burned as he sent the grouch an icy glare. Who did he think he was? Their mentor? "Last time I checked, most cats can talk and walk at the same time," he said coolly. "Even kits can do that," he said more nonchalantly. The tom forced himself to continue walking even though he wanted to stop dead in his tracks. He opened his mouth to speak but then shut it. If they couldn't get his drift, then something was wrong with them. It was clear that he didn't appreciate 'order' Stormwhisper gave them. Especially when they weren't sitting on their rears doing nothing.
The gray tom's reaction to Cedarbranch was expected. In fact, Harelight would have laughed if he was in a better mood. The whole scene was hilarious to him -- like an apprentice getting scolded by an annoyed elder. As Cedarbranch walked closer to he and Shrikecloud, he resisted the urge to smirk. Harelight started to hope that the tabby tom would be foolish enough to approach Stormwhisper again. He needed the entertainment.

tagged words XXX notes NOTES | once stormwhisper spoke, shrikecloud knew that there was little to be gained from further engaging with him. clearly civility was something he had little care for, the molly making a mental note to keep her distance from him. even though she had cared very little for her clanmates, at least she made a point of being civil to all of them. was he purposely trying to alienate himself from his clanmates or was his ego really that big that he was ignorant to the fact that no one liked him? arrogant fool. she thought bitterly, her eyes darkening but expression otherwise staying neutral.
“there’s no need to be rude, harelight.” shrikecloud chastised, brows furrowing as she glanced at him. “if he doesn’t want to talk, then that’s fine. if he believes that we’d be more efficient if we shut our mouths, then that’s his right.” the words tasted sour on her tongue, her tone matching the coolness of the cream coloured toms. it was interesting to her that harelight had taken the large toms words so personally, but it wasn’t surprising. hardly anything her clanmates did warranted surprise. this patrol was already more fun than anything she had done in the past several moons. a small part of her hoped that it would come to blows, if only to use it as a way to garner favour from nightstar. the scene played out in her head quickly as she finally addressed the young brown tabby that strode beside her.
“i do apologize for the sour tone the patrol has taken.” she smiled sweetly at cedarbranch. “it must feel strange to be the youngest cat on a patrol of seasoned warriors. i do hope you don’t feel intimidated by our collective experience.” shrikecloud made a point of gesturing to their patrol mates, though it was clear who she was referring to.

Tracks came to a sudden stop at Harelight's words, not a single glance being given toward him as that familiar anger bubbled within Stormwhisper's belly, threatening to push over just as it did during his enouncter with Goldenholly. A deep intake of breath was given from the large tom, shoving the threatening temper deep into his chest and forcing it to remain silent. Aggression would end in nothing, but if the warrior wanted to act like a fussy kitten. Then Stormwhisper would treat him as such. He turned his body around, pushing past Shrikecloud and Cedarbranch without a word, intense gaze focused on the shorter tom ahead of him, stepping in front of him to keep him from moving forward.
"Did that feel good to say?" He'd ask, shifting his head to the side, mocking fake curiosity, "Surely you're a better warrior than this. Taunting me as if you were a cowardice kitten searching for a moment of power. I am not the one who will be silent about this behavior. But all means you want to act like this, then return to camp and march straight to the nursey den to have your evening feast." He spoke with no hesitation in his words, expression holding that same sour frown, he had no time for taunts and teasing. "You're older than me, aren't you? Act like it." With that he'd turn around once more, strolling past Cedarbranch and Shrikecloud without another word and continuing on the patrol with little care.

CEDARBRANCH
Cedarbranch slightly pinned his ears as Stormwhisper walked past. What could have hurt him so much for him to isolate himself? He wanted to help Stormwhisper, but he couldn't if the tom allowed him not to. He then turned to Shrikecloud, who seemed to be the only civil one here. Though Cedarbranch wasn't dumb, and he knew he shouldn't get too close to Shrikecloud. The tom had seen how she seemed to be...a bit possessive...over some cats just by accident when hunting by himself.
Then Shrikecloud spoke to him. Now he couldn't be rude and ignore her! It's just not in his blood to be like that. And so, he replied back. "It's quite alright. However, I do wish that everyone in WindClan could at least somewhat get along with one another, you know? But with all this 'pureblood' nonsense, I don't think that'll ever happen unless a miracle comes along." Cedarbranch replied before hearing her second sentence. "It isn't too bad being the youngest here in all honesty. I think it's quite nice, actually." He responded with a slight chuckle before turning his head in front of him and walking on, still beside Shrikecloud.

Harelight of WindClan
Harelight didn't think this patrol would have gotten annoying as it was. Well, sort of given the cats that were in it. Personally, the tom would have preferred if Fawnheart had gotten an apprentice or someone with better energy instead of Stormwhisper. He'd even accept a kit and have them cling to his back as he patrolled. From this assignment, he assumed that the deputy wanted her clanmates to be able to be around anybody. Or simply didn't care about how the dynamics would have been.
When Shrikecloud spoke to him, the tom couldn't help but give her a confused look. Was she not listening? Was his stance not clear? Or was she a little dumb? "I could care less about his want for solitude. I just think he should keep it to himself instead of ordering us to do what he's doing." That was probably the easiest he could have repeated his stance. If she still was trying to pick through his words, then he'd be cool with ignoring her. Without another word to her, he turned his head and continued on.
But then the bigger smoke tom walked toward him, causing him to pause and slash his tail. Hmm. Looks like I struck a tiny nerve, he mused. His blue eyes landed squarely on the tom, not intimidated in the slightest. When the tom spoke, Harelight nonchalantly shrugged every once in a while. He even thought about mocking him. By the tom was done, his blue gaze was bored and super unimpressed. Perhaps if that hag's comeback was as good as his ability to repel others, the cream tom would be moved. "Oh please," he said, rolling his eyes. "At least a kit would be much better company than you." The slender tom stayed where he was, fixing him with a level stare. "You know what's your problem?" If he wanted to tell the cream tom about himself, then he shouldn't get upset when it's reciprocated.
"You strut around this place, thinking you have something to be arrogant about. Like your clanmates are below you. Seems like you have an unwarranted air of superiority. What a shame." The tom shrugged again and continued on. "I was simply saying that it's okay for you to stay away from us while we do what we do over here. And yet that triggered you. If you really want others to like you deep down in that little heart of yours," the tom's voice became crisp. "Get your broad head out of your rump and treat others that actually want to be around you with decency." His tail flicked towards Cedarbranch, the only one that seemed to care about the gray fool. "It's no wonder you're unpopular."
When the tom started to walk away, Harelight walked to the side of him, keeping a distance. "Oh, and by the way," his voice was like ice. "I think you should think twice before blowing hot air in my direction. I suggest you ask Flamehowl to remedy that for you with a mint." The cream tom flicked his tail dismissively and slowed his pace as the gray tom left. His tail calmly whisked to the side as he walked a little bit ahead of Shrikecloud and Cedarbranch. The cream tom was eavesdropping for sure; however, he didn't but in. He had to save his breath in case that grouch had to come over there again. When the tabby tom mentioned pureblood elitism, Harelight couldn't help but give him a glance. Oh, right. An ex-kittypet. Being pureblood and brother of Rabbitstar, he was never frowned upon for his heritage. So, he didn't get the disdainful looks from cats like Tigerbranch or Cariboucall. But he was sure Cedarbranch did. It was a shame, really.
But Cedarbranch wasn't speaking to Harelight on the patrol. So, the cream tom didn't care to offer his support. Unlike the tabby tom, he could tell if some others weren't fond of him.

tagged words 395 notes NOTES | generally speaking, shrikecloud didn’t enjoy drama. well, she didn’t enjoy it when she was wrapped up in it. but the hostility between stormwqhisper and harelight was doing a wonderful job at holding her attention. she was trying to pay attention to what cedarbranch was saying, but he didn’t hold a flame to the tension radiating between the two other toms. it didn’t bother her that harelight was dismissing her previous chastisement. he was the kind of tom she wouldn’t give the time of day to, she didn’t need him to like her or agree with her view. she merely gast a dithering look over her shoulder and shook her head slightly.
unable to stop herself, the she-cat found her paws unmoving as maine coon blew past her and got into the face of the instigator. the she-warriors eyes gleamed with delight as stormwhsipers words fell harshly on harelight, who seemed impervious to them. a flicker of disappointment crossed her face as the cream coloured tom took everything in stride. the word “pureblood” caught her attention however, and she glanced at cedarbranch.
“strong opinions and stronger personalities deem that highly unlikely.” she mewed absently. she was hardly one to speak on the lineage of her clanmates, having had a kit from an affair with a rogue, though no one knew his true parentage. as far as everyone in windclan was concerned, he was sired by a brave windclan warrior, and not a ‘dirty’ rogue. no, shrikecloud didn’t care for the elitists in the clan.
“now, really!” she called as harelight ceased talking and continued on his way. “both of you are acting like kits! nighstar would be ashamed to hear that two of his warriors were acting like this.” she sniffed, brow furrowing in apparent concern. “tom cats!” she said with exasperation to her walking companion. “if any other clan is near our borders, i can only imagine what they would think!” if it was her, and she had heard a rival clans warriors arguing in such a manner, she would probably try to poke the bear even more. discontentment between warriors meant that a clan wasn’t as strong as they appeared; she’d deem them vulnerable, and take that information to nightstar at once. then again, maybe she’d sit idly by and watch them duke it out. either option would be favourable for the tuxedo molly.

He could no longer deny the burning rage seeping deep within his chest, for many moons Stormwhisper had learned to perfect the art of patience, not just in hunting but in his emotions and the way he reacted to such things, the fire in him begged to be released, to spill the awful words he kept tightly closed against his tongue, to stop caring and finally just say whatever comes to mind. A deep intake of breath was giving, forcing the anger down once more, eyes closing as he moved forward, he needed to calm down. Just continue on with the patrol and pay no mind to whining warrior behind him, let Cedarbranch and Shrikecloud have their conversation and keep moving forward.
But all promise of composure had seemed to fade the moment Shrikecloud's words processed in his head, not another word was given before Stormwhisper's attention turned toward Shrikecloud, Cedarbranch and Harelight, first his gaze landed onto Harelight, eyes holding an icy dangerous glint within them, breath heavy as he began to speak. "My reputation among this clan is one I barely care for. If I did, I would have burned this entire forest to the ground, But I chose to protect and do what I must to ensure I remain a true warrior of windclan. And I know you're suffering the loss of your sister, but by starclan Harelight, stick your damn chin up and suck it up!" He'd holler, teeth-baring and a hiss erupting from his throat, "We weren't the one who killed Rabbitstar, so stop dragging your weight around the forest like it was our fault!" He'd spit once more before turning toward Shrikecloud, "And I'm sure you would love to see such a thing, wouldn't you, Shrikecloud? Sweet innocent Shrikecloud, you're the most pathetic excuse I've seen of a warrior, so do us all a favor and keep that damn mouth of yours shut." Stormwhisper had no intention of holding back from his insults, fur standing up on end and expression twisted into a vicious snarl, "Now if you excuse me. I wish to get my warrior duties finished but please if you want to continue spitting at each other. I won't be a part of it, any longer." He'd once more push forward, paws stomping against the ground as he did so, tail lashing in obvious anger.
