A slight sigh, perhaps uncharacteristic, breezed from Loondusk's maw as she settled onto her belly. Even as the air around her cooled beneath the sun's setting rays, she knew there would be no chill tonight. Even so, the large molly appreciated the warmth that the ivory sand retained, seeping through her belly-fur like the comfort of a motherly embrace. Not that she cared much for such things.
[break][break]
Even by her standards, it had been a long and stressful day.
[break][break]
Without ever being deputy, the transition from warrior to leader had been startling for Loondusk. She hid it well, as she hid everything, but she had to admit it. Nothing had ever felt quite so right and so wrong at the same time. Even so, it made sense. She knew it made sense, and she would explain that sense time and time again if she needed to. Leopardstar had made the right choice - at least, she had made the right choice in replacing Mistyfoot. However, even she could not say whether she thought Leopardstar had made the right choice in choosing her. Only time could tell.
[break][break]
Now, a certain peace could be regained as she lay here, watching the waves lap only fox-lengths from her paws. Ghostfire's suggestions had been playing within her mind ever since he had made them, and with each repetition, she could admit they made sense. In truth, she had never quite understood everyone's complete reliance on emotions when their world could be a better place without - and yet she remembered a time when it would have meant so much to her to be heard. Had Leopardstar ever listenened? Loondusk could not be certain. However, if it would bring their clan together...perhaps it was time for her to try.
[break][break]
And so while she had initially set out upon a quest to find her new deputy, it had become more than that. Certainly, she was still looking - as the sun sunk beneath the waves, moonhigh was creeping ever closer - however now she had an additional intent. If she could give her warriors a chance to be heard throughout all of this silent assessment, then perhaps it might ease their minds. Perhaps it might bring peace among their clan sooner.
[break][break]
And so the next warrior to meet her summons came with a mixed intent. Certainly, she was observing every able-bodied warrior, but she also wanted to hear their concerns. If she could bed them now, that would be ideal. What the end goal of this newest meeting might be, Loondusk could not be sure. However, her gaze rose from the waves all the same at the sound of pawsteps, and she gave the young warrior a wordless nod of greeting.
